Dental Services

Initial Oral Examination
During your first visit, we will take necessary x-rays, perform an oral cancer screening, review oral hygiene instructions, monitor your periodontal condition, and check your teeth for cavities.  We will also perform a professional cleaning and prophy your teeth.  We may recommend a fluoride treatment as the last step of your appointment.

Preventive Care and Non-Surgical Gum Treatment
You should have a standard cleaning at least twice a year. If it has been over a year since your last cleaning, possible treatment will include either Periodontal Scaling (deeper) or Root Planning and Scaling (requires anesthetic).

Tooth Whitening
Our dentists use Zoom Whitening (as seen on Extreme Makeover TV show). Your teeth can lighten 6 to 10 shades in just 2 hours. Our office also makes impressions and trays that are custom made for your teeth. Whitening is performed at home using whitening gels.

Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers, alternatively termed dental veneers or dental porcelain laminates, are wafer-thin shells of porcelain that are bonded onto the front side of teeth so as to create a cosmetic improvement for a tooth. Porcelain veneers are routinely used by our dentists as a way to make cosmetic changes for teeth that are discolored, worn, chipped, or misaligned.

Dental Implants
A dental implant is a metal device designed to replace missing teeth. The device is usually made out of titanium and is surgically placed into the jawbone where the tooth is missing. A dental implant is designed to act as the tooth root and can anchor an artificial tooth or teeth such as a crown, bridge or denture. Our dentist may work with an implant specialist to create an implant for a missing single tooth, missing multiple teeth, or replace a removable appliance.

Crowns/Bridges
Our dentist might recommend using artificial teeth for a variety of reasons but, in general, most of these reasons will usually fall within one of the following basic categories: to restore a tooth to its original shape, to strengthen a tooth, to improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth, or to replace extracted teeth.

Braces
By using a series of clear, removable aligners, Invisalign straightens your teeth with results you'll notice sooner than you think. The course of treatment involves changing aligners approximately every two weeks, moving your teeth into straighter position step by step, until you have a more beautiful smile. And unlike braces, these clear aligners can be removed while you eat and brush your teeth as usual.

Root Canal Treatments
This is a dental procedure to fix a tooth that cannot be filled or restored any other way. If the tooth is severely decayed into the nerve of the tooth and / or infected, root canal treatment is usually the only option to save the tooth.

Denture and Partials
Our office offer two types of dentures: full and partial.  Your dentist will help you choose the type of denture that's best for you based on whether some or all of your teeth are going to be replaced and the cost involved.  Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back into your mouth. While dentures take some getting used to, and will never feel exactly the same as one's natural teeth, today's dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever.

Mouth Guards
Whether you are an athlete or casual sports participant, you should wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth. If you grind your teeth while you sleep, a bite guard will help reduce symptoms of TMJ. We custom make mouth guards in both soft and hard materials.

FAMILY AND COSMETIC DENTISTRY

Meet our Doctors and Staff

Doctor Faranak Khasraghi
Dr. Khasraghi first went to dental school at Shiraz University which is located in her native country, Iran.  In 1992, Dr. Khasraghi received her DDS from the university; however, upon moving to the United States, it was necessary that she attend dental school a second time, in order to practice dentistry.  Determined to succeed in her chosen profession, Dr. Khasraghi did return to dental school at the University of Pennsylvania and received her DMD in 2003.

Practicing dentistry now for 17 years, Dr. Khasraghi has extensive qualifications as well as the experience necessary to provide high quality dental care.  Dr. Khasraghi works without fail to establish long lasting relationships with her patients, as well as providing them with smiles that are both healthy and confident.  In addition to taking advanced courses in cosmetic restorations and root canal therapy, Dr. Khasraghi is also Invisalign certified.

Doctor Forough Akrami
After receiving her undergraduate degree from George Mason University, Dr. Akrami continued her education at The Medical College of Virginia, where she graduated cum laude with her doctor of dental surgery.  Practicing dentistry four years now, Dr. Akrami recognizes the individuality of each person and strives to make every patient feel well cared for.  Dr. Akrami’s favorite part of dentistry is combining science with art.  As such, Dr. Akrami offers excellent dental care as well as aesthetic perfection.

With the precision and patience like one finds in Dr. Akrami, you can be sure that you will receive the treatment that best benefits you both health-wise, as well as cosmetically.  Dr. Akrami has also taken advanced courses in cosmetic Lumineers and root canal therapy.

Doctor Nassir Barekzi
Many of our patients knew Dr. Barekzi before he had the title of doctor.  Dr. Barekzi has been in the dental field since 1998, working as a dental assistant while attending college at James Madison University as well as during his time at The Medical College of Virginia, located in Richmond.  Practicing dentistry at our office for the past three years, our patients have expressed nothing but gratitude from Dr. Barekzi’s gentle hand and excellent chair-side manner.  This comes as no surprise however, as it is Dr. Barekzi’s ambition to show patients, through his work, that dentistry does not have to be painful or uncomfortable.  Dr. Barekzi is certified in implant surgery as well as cosmetic restorations.

Cindy
After receiving a BA in Education from Longwood University, Cindy quickly realized that teaching was not her ideal career.  After browsing the local want ads, Cindy finally found a job she found interesting.  Sixteen years later, Cindy is the glue that holds the office together.  She has watched patients grow, move away and come back to the practice when they return.  She loves seeing familiar faces and with all of the progressive changes the practice has recently undergone, Cindy is someone our patients can recognize and trust.

Besides having first worked as a dental assistant, she has spent the last ten years as the office manager, battling insurance companies to keep our patients informed and happy.  She loves to travel and is active in her church choir and hand bell group.  Yet even with all of her exciting extra activities, Cindy is still someone who comes into work every day and genuinely loves what she does.

Sharon
With her children constantly keeping Sharon on the move,   it is a wonder that she can remain so calm.  Sharon’s soothing presence gives any patient the feeling that they can relax and feel safe in the dental chair.  She has training in radiology, CPR, first aid and is a certified dental assistant.  The dental office can get very hectic but with Sharon as part of our team, we somehow manage to keep things running smoothly.  She likes her job and her fellow colleagues.

With her kind of personality present on our staff, it would be hard for a patient to feel anything but welcome and comfortable at our office.

MartaMarta
A native of El Salvador in Central America, Marta found a home here at the office nine years ago.  She has since become a certified dental assistant and has received her x-ray certification from Northern Virginia Community College.  Marta enjoys the dental office because she likes meeting different people.  She thinks that good dental hygiene is extremely important and can tell you so herself in not one, but two languages! Bi-lingual in both English and Spanish, Marta brings a valuable skill with her to the office as well as her contagious positive energy and smile!

JessicaJessica
Jessica is one of our newest employees arriving in April 2011. She comes to us as a graduate from ACT, Applied Career Training, and is a certified dental assistant. She also has certifications in radiology, CPR, and First Aid. Being bi-lingual is a huge help in communicating with our Spanish speaking patients when they have difficulty communicating their needs in English. She enjoys working with all patients, but especially likes working with children here in the office. Experiences with her daughter have equipped her with the ability to calm young patients when they are apprehensive about their dental visit.

She is friendly, knowledgeable, and energetic which goes a long way here at Comfort Dental.

Fariba Khasraghi
With her two sisters both practicing dentistry, it is no surprise that Fariba has an interest in dental hygiene as well.  Fariba started working at our office within the past year as both a hygienist as well as a member of the front office.  She received her RDH or Registered Dental Hygienist from Howard University and has been seeing patients for three years.  When she isn’t cooking, exercising or reading, she is at the office where she takes the education about good oral hygiene very seriously.

It is important for her to inform patients that problems with oral hygiene could stem from somewhere other than one’s mouth.  Kind hearted and spirited, Fariba is a formidable addition to our practice and an excellent resource for our patients.
